The Wellness Therapist

FAQs
You Ask - I Answer
How long does each therapy session take?
It depends on the type of therapy that we agree to use to help you with your difficulties. Typically an individual session will be 50 minutes but if doing trauma focused therapy such as EMDR sessions are 90 minutes.
Do you use Freudian or Jungian analysis techniques?
Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches have their place in therapy, but I am not trained in this modality. The focus of our therapy will be on using Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Acceptance and Committment (ACT), Compassion Focused (CFT), Brief Solution Focused, Dialectal Behavioural (DBT) and EMDR therapies. If you would like to access therapies based in Freudian or Jungian analysis, I would recommend researching on the UKCP and BACP for specialised therapists.
How long should I expect to be in therapy for?
This really depends on what you want to work on in therapy. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is typically a short term therapy and is recommended to be between 8-20 sessions depending of the difficulty and severity of symptoms. However EMDR can take longer is there is more content to process. As your therapist, we will work together to decide how many sessions might be appropriate and regularly review in collaboration how many more sessions might be needed.
What happens if there is something that I don't want to talk about?
If there is something that you don't want to explore in therapy, then that is absolutely fine. As a therapist, sometimes it is my role to dig deeper to support us to gain insight; but you can always share if you're not ready or if there are areas that you are not willing to talk about at all. You may decide not to speak with me about them at all and that is okay, It's your therapy.
What happens if cancel a session?
As part of your first session, we will discuss the boundaries around our work together and included within that will be the cancellation policy in addition to confidentiality and how we will manage any safety concerns.
